AAF Curatorial Exchange Program
Curators spend up to a month at a leading U.S. or Austrian museum to expand their expertise.
The American Austrian Foundation’s Curatorial Exchange Program was established in 2017. Under this exchange, directors from leading U.S. and Austrian museums select a curator from their respective institutions to spend up to one month in Austria and the United States at a corresponding museum in the department of their choice to expand their expertise.
The program is funded by an annual luncheon, honoring individuals from both the United States and Austria in various fields of professional accomplishment including art, architecture, design, film, and music, organized by the AAF Cultural Committee, chaired by AAF trustee Dr. Gregor Medinger.
"I was particularly interested in the reorganization of the portrait gallery at the MET and the different methods of installation. The MET has so many options in terms of hanging, labeling, and routing throughout the galleries.
I was surprised how easily complicated issues were simply explained in the labels - compared to the German texts on the text panels or in the catalogs at the KHM, which are often far too complicated for the general public.
I will “keep it simple” in my future work."
