The US embassy in Vienna celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence with a concert entitled “Freedom250” conducted by AAF’s 2020 Conductor Fellow, William Garfield Walker.
Martin Eichtinger, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and Art Fisher, US Ambassador to Austria, welcomed the audience at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. Both spoke about the 250th anniversary and the long-standing friendship between the United States and Austria. 100 guests attended the concert and celebration with William Garfield Walker conducting the NOVA Orchestra Wien.
The concert program celebrated American songwriting and orchestral tradition, as well as the musical exchange between Austria and the United Staes featuring compositions by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Leonard Bernstein, Florence Price and Aaron Copland, as well as by William Garfield Walker’s own works.
William Garfield Walker received the AAF Young Conductors Fellowship in 2020. Following his fellowship, he conducted orchestras across Europe, the United States and Asia. He is chief conductor of the Nova Orchestra.
